Novel Concepts for Unconventional Gas Development in Shales, Tight Sands and Coalbeds (07122-07)

Carter Technologies Co. - Principal Investigator:  Ernest E. Carter, P.E.

Objective:  The objective of this project was to conduct a preliminary evaluation of novel methods for stimulating gas production from low-permeability rocks, including shale, tight sands, and coal bed formations. Specifically, the goal was to assess the feasibility of using a saw to cut a deep slot from a horizontal borehole into the formation at 5,000 to 10,000 foot depths.

Period of Performance:  July 24, 2008 to February 19, 2009 - Completed
