Arctic Exploration to Continue

Royal Dutch Shell Oil announced plans to continue a massive exploration of the Arctic in the summer of 2015. Chief Financial Officer, Simon Henry, announced on April 30 that "an armada of 25 vessels" will begin a two-year program to explore two to three wells in the Chukchi Sea off the coast of Alaska.” Last month the U.S. Dept. of Interior upheld a 2008 Arctic Lease sale and will now consider Shell's drilling plan, expected to take 30 days. Environmental groups still voice opposition, fearing an oil spill in this ecological sensitive region would be extremely difficult to clean up in the harsh Arctic environment.
