Colorado House Passes Earthquake Bill

The Colorado House has passed a bill that would allow homeowners and landowners to sue oil and gas companies for earthquake damage. Governor John Hickenlooper opposes the bill and the Colorado Senate has yet to vote, but is not expected to pass the bill. The Governor’s spokesperson, Kathy Green, said “First, the department hasn’t seen widespread problems with property damage caused by seismicity in Colorado, generally, and we haven’t seen widespread seismicity caused by oil and gas operations.” The Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry also opposed the bill saying it is “one of the most aggressive anti-industry bills” of the legislature.
