Exploration in the North Sea Continues

Despite the low price of oil, long term exploration in the North Sea continues.  As the fields in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) are reaching maturity, "operators are looking to the more remote areas of the Barents Sea for further development." DNV GL's recently released feasibility report notes, "harsher environmental conditions, prolonged periods of darkness and long distances to shore make evacuation and rescue of personnel on Arctic offshore installations more challenging." Because of the distances to coastlines and infrastructure, new emergency response concepts and technologies will need to be developed.
