Oil Transport by Rail Increases

In a report released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shipping of oil by railroad has increased 50 fold in 5 years. In January 2010 630,000 barrels of oil were shipped, by January 2015 the figure has risen to 33.7 million barrels of oil. This is the first monthly reporting of oil shipped by rail by the EIA. In January 2015 rails moved 10% of all oil in U.S. and 40% from Midwestern states including North Dakota, Colorado and Wyoming to refineries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
