Pipeline Bill Goes to President

In a rare bipartisan move, Congress has sent a bill to improve oil and gas pipeline safety and infrastructure to President Obama for his signature. PIPES was passed unanimously by the House and Senate last week. The bill will impact the transportation of over 60 % of the Nation’s oil and gas reserves. In a joint statement from Congress, "Although pipelines are by and large out of sight to most Americans, their safe, reliable operation is critical to our economy and to our daily lives." The bill would provide $700 million for Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and includes action on items like the Aliso Canyon methane leak near Los Angeles, California
