U.S. Largest Gas Field Closes

In Pennsylvania the ”drilling boom of the past seven years is over, even though thousands of existing wells in the Marcellus region still produce a fifth of U.S. natural gas supply.” Companies are pulling out of Marcellus gas fields in Williamsport, PA. The Marcellus provides nearly half of U.S. shale reserves and the government expects the region to keep producing more in the coming years. U.S. natural gas production rose 30 percent from 2008 to 2015 due to the development of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling.
