Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Drilling Advisory Summit to NAE/NRC Committee

The participants of this two-day technical summit, held in Houston, Texas on March 15-16, 2011 will provide input to help inform a National Academy of Engineering/National Research Council (NAE/NRC) panel that has been asked by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to recommend ways of reducing the risk of incidents similar to the Macondo well blowout from occurring in the future.  

This summit will focus on the areas of:
  • Personnel Training and Certification
  • Processes and Oversight
  • Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Interactions between Lease Holders, Drilling Contractors, and Service Companies

·         The summit will produce a report summarizing its findings, and the report will be used as input to the NAE/NRC panel responsible for “identifying and recommending available technology, industry best practices, best available standards, and other measures in use around the world in deepwater exploratory drilling and well completion to avoid future occurrence of such events."

Technical specialists, currently working in deepwater drilling operations should attend.
