Development of unconventional gas is accompanied by many technical challenges. To promote the development and production of this resource in the northern portion of the Western Energy Corridor, the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) and the Alberta Government have called for a forum focusing on this important resource. The Idaho National Laboratory and the Alberta Energy Research Institute, along with the Alberta Research Council and the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, are hosting a research forum to identify industry needs in areas of advanced coalbed methane, natural gas production from tight sands, natural gas production for gas shales, stranded gas, enhanced gas recovery techniques and environmental challenges associated with unconventional gas exploration and production.
The forum will serve as a vehicle to bring together experts and other diverse stakeholders from both the U.S. and Canada to define research needed to address the technical and environmental challenges of unconventional gas development particular to this geographical area. The objective of this event is to identify relevant research and development needs that will enable increased development of this valuable resource in an environmentally sound manner while fostering trans-border collaborative efforts. These research and development needs will be incorporated into a future RPSEA call for proposals and, ultimately, into funded projects.
The forum will take place Tuesday, May 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Idaho Falls. Attendance is limited and is reserved on a first come-first served basis at no cost. Registration closes on May 7 at 11 p.m.
A reception will take place the evening prior on May 11 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Idaho Falls. You must register for the forum and the reception separately. Click here to register for the reception.
A limited number of rooms have been reserved at a rate of $119 for the event; please ask for the RPSEA-INL block when registering. The availability of this special rate will end on April 27. Contact the hotel at 208.522.9500.
