Marcellus Shale Field Workshop (PSU, ABBSG, RPSEA)

The Pennsylvania State University, with co-funding from the Appalachian Basin Black Shale Group (ABBSG) and the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) is organizing a three-day workshop to examine various outcrops of black shale including Marcellus in the Finger Lakes District of New York and in north central Pennsylvania.  Penn State is presently conducting a study that will produce a geomechanical model for gas shales based on the integration of stress measurements and petrophysical data from the greater Marcellus gas system.  Workshop attendees will be stopping at numerous outcrop sites in the Ithaca-Watkins Glen region to learn how these surfaces outcrops, coupled with in-field stress measurements, are being used to develop the geomechanical model.
