RPSEA Onshore Technology Workshop

Preliminary Agenda

Appalachian Basin Technology

This interactive workshop will address several topics of importance to resource development within the Appalachian area, in particular the development of shale resources. Topics of interest on the agenda include three major hydraulic fracturing experiments being sponsored by NETL and industry. One experiment was conducted in the West Texas Permian basin with learning that can be applied to all fracturing operations; a second experiment will focus on the Utica shale with an emphasis on environmental impact; and the third experiment addressing the Marcellus shale at a test site near Morgantown, WV. Other topics include a geomechanical model for the greater Marcellus gas system and the potential for subsurface brine disposal in the Northern Appalachian basin.
