RPSEA is pleased to announce the release of the second 2012 Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Ultra-Deepwater Program. RPSEA is seeking research proposals to assist with identifying and developing technologies, architectures, and methods that ensure safe and environmentally
responsible exploration and production of hydrocarbons from the ultra-deepwater portion of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and from formations in the OCS deeper than 15,000 feet in an economically viable (full cycle) manner.
The continued development activity of this important energy resource results in new and more complex technical challenges. This research solicitation addresses some of those challenges.
Topics in this RFP include: Pressure Prediction and Hazard Avoidance through Improved Seismic Imaging; Development and Qualification of a Subsea Produced Water Treatment System for Ultra-Deepwater Re-injection or Subsea Discharge; Real-time Acoustic Oil-Water Separation in Oil Production; Methodology and Algorithm Development for the Evaluation of Ultra-deepwater or Arctic Floating Platform Performance under Hazardous Sea Conditions; Development of Advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics Tools for the Enhanced Prediction of Explosion Pressure Development and Deflagration Risk on Drilling and Production Facilities; Composite or Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Riser for Dry Tree Drilling or Production of High Pressure Wells; Best Practices for Deepwater Cementing in Oil Based Mud (OBM) and Synthetic Based Mud (SBM); Early Kick Detection Technology and Demonstration; Ultra-deep In-situ Spectrographic and Multiple Physical Sample Capture.
